New "Mike Stepping over Death Valley" Mark

Updated: Oct 11

In 2024, Tiger Stadium will celebrate its 100th anniversary, and LSU unveiled their 100th-year logo over the summer. This logo can be seen on the 25-yard lines, the video board, signage, and merchandise. There were rumors about a new logo being introduced to the LSU brand in August. The Athletic Collection-LSU hinted and so did I at the new logo via Twitter in August. It's good to stir the pot. It's not like we have enough anxiety during games. Everyone loves a brand new logo and we got one.

"Mike Stepping over Death Valley" is the newest mark which is an updated, more stylized version of the old painting of Mike stepping over the stadium from the 60'S-70's. You'll find that logo on the old program guides, an old ice chest, and definitely on the wall of a restaurant. The differences are the stadium; of course, the older version does not include the West Upper deck, which wasn't added until 1978. You can find other versions with the West Upper deck but a view from the south endzone. The newer version includes both upper decks and more detailed oak trees. The tiger stepping over the stadium in the newer version replicates the white sides of the face of the older logo but doesn't match LSU's current tiger head logo.

This leads me to believe that this mark is for merchandise purposes only. I will refer to it as a mark from now on to avoid confusing you or myself. The Collegiate Licensing Company informed their subscribers about the upcoming mark and sent them updated art sheets in August. The Athletic Collection-LSU first informed me about the new mark, but they were waiting on LSU to give them, and I'm sure others have the okay to use the new mark. I'd be surprised to see the mark on anything else but a styrofoam cooler, a shirt, a bumper sticker, or a cornhole board. Don't get your hopes up about seeing this on any LSU uniform at any time.

Let me know your thoughts on the new mark.
